DR WERNER BOTHA

MBChB (Stell), Dip.Obst. (SA), FCS Urol (SA)

Werner Botha was born in Cape Town and graduated with his MbChB from the University of Stellenbosch in 1991. His first years as a medical officer were spent in Obstetrics, Gynecology and General Surgery. His Urology training was completed at the Groote Schuur Hospital and University of Cape Town where he obtained his Fellowship in Urology in 2000.

Dr. Botha was awarded the Phillip Smith Prize for Best Postgraduate Student in Urology in 2000 from the University of Cape Town. Dr. Botha is still involved with the Urology Department at Groote Schuur Hospital as a part time consultant. He is also a member of the South African Urological Association.

He practices general urology and has various specialised fields of interest, which include Brachytherapy for Prostate Cancer and Laser Treatment for Stones and Prostate Enlargements. He performed the first Revolix Laser Prostatectomy in South Africa in August 2006. He has done more than 500 of these procedures to date.

Werner is married with 2 boys. He is a keen mountain biker and a budding kite surfer.

Dr Karlheinz Jehle was born in Cape Town, educated at Rondebosch Boys’ High School and graduated MBChB from the University of the Free State in 1998. After two years in Zululand he moved to England where he worked as a General Surgery trainee, obtaining his Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2006. He returned to Cape Town and completed his urology specialist training at Groote Schuur Hospital from 2007 to 2011, where he was awarded a Masters Degree from the University of Cape Town with his dissertation on ultrasound guided prostate biopsies. He was awarded the Philip Smith prize in 2012 as the best postgraduate student in Urology.

Dr Jehle has a broad interest across the subspecialties of Urology including Urological Oncology (treatment of prostate, bladder and kidney cancer). He has a particular interest in prostate disease with a focus on prostate cancer diagnosis, and introduced MRI-ultrasound fusion targeted biopsies of the prostate in South Africa in 2017. He is experienced at laser enucleation of the prostate, using both Holmium and Thulium laser technology.

In addition he practices Paediatric and Reconstructive Urology, and offers a microsurgical vasectomy reversal and microsurgical TESE procedures for patients who require assisted reproduction.

He is married to Nathalie and they have three children.
